New Year Excitement and Goals

The beginning of the year used to be a somber time to me. For whatever reason, it would be a more reflective and sometimes regretful period. As this year begins to come to a close though, I am getting really amped up for 2015. This New Year, I have some very concrete and ambitious fitness goals, but I also feel that they are realistic and will be fulfilling. I was doing a little research earlier today and I found that Atlanta has a half marathon and 5k on Thanksgiving. I really enjoyed the 5k that I did with my family here in North Carolina on Thanksgiving, so next year I'm hoping to knock out two birds with one run, as it were, and get a half marathon in on Thanksgiving. I'd like to get a half marathon in by March or April of 2015, but the Thanksgiving one will give me a good backstop.

My excitement is also building for The Bear run next summer. For the past couple times that I've done the race, my goal has been to finish in less than an hour and I've been relatively close, but never quite gotten there. This year I'm not taking any prisoners. I've been training harder and more consistently than I have any other year and as long as I keep it up, I firmly believe I'll be able to crush my 12 minute mile goals for the 5 mile race. If I can finish in under 70 minutes with minimal training, then there's nothing to stop me from finishing under 60 minutes with some legitimate training under my belt. Achieving that particular goal would be a culmination of something I've been working towards for, essentially, 5 or 6 years.

You may or may not have noticed that I now have a comments section on my blog! I'd love to hear from anyone reading so please, write in with any thoughts or suggestions on what I'm writing. You also can always email me through the contact page.

Additionally, with the holidays approaching, who doesn't want to get some online shopping done? I'm in the affiliate program with Amazon so if you shop through Amazon using the link on the sidebar of my site, you can help support the Run and Drum cause!
